Geometrically nonlinear refined shell theories by Carrera Unified Formulation

B. Wu et al.

Summary: A unified formulation of full geometrically nonlinear refined shell theory is developed in this work for accurate analysis of highly flexible shell structures. By utilizing the Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF), various nonlinear responses of different metallic shell structures, such as post-buckling, large deflection, snap-through, and snap-back, can be predicted with high accuracy.

Large deflection and post-buckling of thin-walled structures by finite elements with node-dependent kinematics

E. Carrera et al.

Summary: This paper proposes the use of node-dependent kinematics (NDK) concept in the analysis of large deflection and post-buckling of thin-walled structures, providing significant advantages in computational efficiency and nonlinear problem analysis, especially for beam-like structures. The approach allows for independent kinematics at each element node, addressing issues related to locally dependent deformations and achieving remarkable advantages in the analysis of thin-walled structures.

On the role of large cross-sectional deformations in the nonlinear analysis of composite thin-walled structures

E. Carrera et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geometrical nonlinear effects caused by large displacements and rotations over the cross section of composite thin-walled structures. The nonlinear equations are solved using the finite element method, Newton-Raphson scheme, and arc-length method. Results show that geometrical nonlinear effects play a crucial role, especially when higher-order theories are utilized, in analyzing beams and shell-like laminated composite structures.
