Interaction between nucleant particles and a solid-liquid interface in Al-4.5Cu alloy

Summary: In-situ Al3Ti and TiB2 particles were synthesized by adding halide salts and excess titanium into molten aluminum alloys to reduce grain sizes significantly. Experimental results showed that the traditional particle pushing mechanisms based on interfacial energy interactions may not be applicable in this case, as particles were pushed into the interdendritic regions by growing dendrites regardless of growth rates.

Damage propagation in short fiber thermoplastic composites analyzed through coupled 3D experiments and simulations

Insights into stress states resulting in non-linear damage propagation in thermoplastic fiber composites are provided.

Homogeneous dispersion of graphene and interface metallurgical bonding in Sn-Ag-Cu alloy induced by ball milling

Summary: The addition of graphene is expected to improve the properties of solder and graphene reinforced Sn-Ag-Cu (GNSs/SAC) can adapt to harsh service environments. Different ball milling methods were used to prepare composite solders with varying graphene dispersion. The study found that carbon atoms in beta-Sn form an interstitial solid solution, leading to metallurgical bonding between graphene and Sn-Ag-Cu alloys, with the interface type and graphene dispersion affecting the mechanical properties of the composites.
