A bio-inspired foam-filled multi-cell structural configuration for energy absorption

Analytical study on the low-velocity impact penetration of the fully-clamped foam-core composite sandwich panels

Summary: An analytical model based on Hamilton's principle was proposed to predict the load/displacement history, failure characteristics and energy partition of composite sandwich panels subjected to low-velocity impact of a projectile. The study found that the impact resistance of the panel correlates strongly to the core density, while stacking sequence has minor effect on sandwich panel under low energy impact.

Fire resistance behaviour of GFRP-polyurethane composite sandwich panels for building floors

Summary: The experimental study focused on the fire resistance behavior of composite sandwich floor panels made of glass-fiber reinforced polymer faces and polyurethane foam core. Results showed that with calcium silicate board protection, the fire resistance of the sandwich panels was significantly increased, highlighting the important impact of thermal insulation on their performance.
