Heterogeneous lamella design to tune the mechanical behaviour of a new cost-effective compositionally complicated alloy

Yu Yin et al.

Summary: The mechanical properties of a new cost-effective alloy were manipulated using a heterogeneous lamella design strategy. The design, involving composition and thermomechanical process, led to enhanced performance, with high yield strength and good ductility in comparison with other cost-effective alloys. This approach opens up new possibilities for the development of high-performance and cost-effective alloys.

Refinement of primary carbides in hypereutectic high-chromium cast irons: a review

Abhi-Shek Jain et al.

Summary: High-chromium cast irons are widely used in mining and cement industries for their excellent wear resistance, but their brittleness can lead to early failure of components. Various techniques have been developed to modify the carbide morphology and refine their size, aiming to improve the mechanical performance and service life of these materials. This review discusses the available methods and possible mechanisms for refinement of primary carbides in high-chromium cast irons, with the goal of developing more effective techniques and alloys to optimize their properties.

High-temperature ultra-strength of dual-phase Re0.5 MoNbW(TaC)0.5 high-entropy alloy matrix composite

Qinqin Wei et al.

Summary: The dual-phase Re0.5MoNbW(TaC)(0.5) composite, synthesized by arc melting, exhibited remarkably high-temperature strength with a yield strength of approximately 901 MPa and a true ultimate compressive strength of around 1186 MPa at 1200 degrees C. The semi-coherent interface between the BCC phase and carbide, along with dipolar dislocation walls in the BCC phase and restricted dynamic interaction between defects in the carbide, provided effective strengthening effects.

In-situ Ti(C, N) reinforced AlCoCrFeNiSi-based high entropy alloy coating with functional gradient double-layer structure fabricated by laser cladding

Guanghua Yan et al.

Summary: A functional gradient double-layer structure coating of AlCoCrFeNiSi-based high entropy alloy with in-situ Ti(C, N) reinforcement was successfully fabricated using laser cladding. The presence of Ti(C, N) ceramic particles contributed to the high surface hardness and wear resistance of the coating, improving the wear resistance of the H13 substrate significantly.

A novel in-situ exothermic assisted sintering high entropy Al2O3/(NbTaMoW)C composites: Microstructure and mechanical properties

Diqiang Liu et al.

Summary: A new Al2O3/(NbTaMoW)C composite was designed in this study using an in-situ exothermic reaction method. The resulting composite exhibited a unique microstructure with high entropy carbide and Al2O3 phases, and a noncoherent interface between the two phases which enhanced the mechanical properties such as flexural strength and fracture toughness. The presence of an interlocking structure and inhomogeneous temperature distribution contributed to the improved properties of the composites compared to traditional (NbTaMoW)C materials.

In-situ formed graphene providing lubricity for the FeCoCrNiAl based composite containing graphite nanoplate

Long Wang et al.

Summary: A FeCoCrNiAl high entropy alloy matrix composite containing graphite nanoplates was produced by spark plasma sintering method, and its tribological properties were tested under various loads and velocities. The results showed that the addition of graphite nanoplates significantly reduced the coefficient of friction and wear, attributing to the in-situ formed graphene and tribo-induced oxide layer on the rubbing interface.
