Effect of sulphoaluminate cement on fresh and hardened properties of 3D printing foamed concrete

Chao Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of adding sulphoaluminate cement (SAC) on fresh foamed concrete (FC) and 3D printed FC. The addition of SAC improves the printability and stability of FC, reducing settlement and defoaming and enhancing the mechanical properties of 3D printed FC.

Fresh and anisotropic-mechanical properties of 3D printable ultra-high ductile concrete with crumb rubber

Junhong Ye et al.

Summary: A novel ultra-high ductile concrete (UHDC) modified with crumb rubber was developed for 3D concrete printing. Mechanical tests revealed that the printed UHDC had higher deformability and energy dissipation in certain directions compared to mold-cast UHDC. Additionally, minimal anisotropy was found in flexural strength, but significant anisotropy in flexural deformability, compressive strength and flexural energy dissipation capacity of the printed UHDC.

Flame resistance of geopolymer foam coatings for the fire protection of steel

Johan Sarazin et al.

Summary: The research found that geopolymer foams have excellent thermal insulation properties, with their physico-chemical properties relatively stable before and after fire tests. The addition of silica fume can reduce heat conductivity, prolonging the time for flame burn-through.

Rational design of lightweight cementitious composites with reinforced mechanical property and thermal insulation: Particle packing, hot pressing method, and microstructural mechanisms

Luansu Wei et al.

Summary: The study focused on the preparation of a novel lightweight cementitious composite (HP-LWCC) using the hot-pressing method and optimizing the insulating particles packing. Results showed that HP-LWCC specimens with density of 800-1200 kg/m3 exhibited superior mechanical properties and thermal insulation. The optimized particles packing of HP-LWCC decreased the porosity of specimens and improved the strength, providing a potential solution for thermal insulated construction applications.

Rheology and application of buoyant foam concrete for digital fabrication

Seung Cho et al.

Summary: This research improves the rheological performance of LWFC by adding nanopowder and calcium sulfoaluminate cement, increasing yield stress, improving thixotropic performance, viscosity, and elastic shear modulus evolution. The study also shows that foam volume significantly influences rheological properties and investigates shape retention and buildability through a buildability test. Additionally, a practical example of printing a lightweight fa?ade element with buoyant characteristics further demonstrates the potential application of 3D concrete printing.

Controlling the rheological properties of cement for a submillimetre-thin shell structure

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the fabrication of thin shells by controlling fluid rheology, revealing the coupling effect of surface tension and yield stress on stability and geometry. The optimal ranges of parameters were determined as design guidelines for future development of cementitious thin-shell structures.

Creep in reactive colloidal gels: A nanomechanical study of cement hydrates

Summary: The creep response in hydrating cement paste is mainly controlled by the interparticle distance and results from slippage between (C-S-H) nanoparticles. This insight provides a pathway for designing concrete with improved creep resistance.
