Nonlinear resonance responses of size-dependent functionally graded cylindrical microshells with thermal effect and elastic medium

G. G. Sheng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the nonlinear resonance responses of functionally graded cylindrical microshells with an elastic medium, taking into account thermal and scale effects. The nonlinear dynamics model for FG microshells is established using the modified couple stress theory, and the reduced nonlinear differential equations are derived through Galerkin's method and static condensation. The perturbation method is used to analyze the subharmonic, superharmonic, and primary resonances of FG cylindrical microshells. Numerical examples are provided to investigate the bifurcation characteristics of the nonlinear dynamic responses, and numerical simulations are conducted to discuss the effects of key parameters on the nonlinear resonance responses.

Nonlinear forced vibrations analysis of imperfect stiffened FG doubly curved shallow shell in thermal environment using multiple scales method

Habib Ahmadi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the non-linear vibrations of stiffened imperfect functionally graded double-curved shallow shells, as rested on nonlinear elastic foundations. The shells are exposed to external harmonic excitation and thermal situations. The modeling of shells is derived according to the classical shell theory and the non-linear geometric von Karman relationships, considering material properties changes along the thickness direction based on a power law index. The study uses analytical and numerical methods to analyze the resonance behavior and nonlinear dynamic behaviors of the shells under various conditions.

Dynamics properties of multi-layered composite sandwich doubly-curved shells

Yanchun Zhai et al.

Summary: The dynamics properties of two kinds of multi-layered composite sandwich doubly-curved shells with two-layered viscoelastic cores are studied based on first order shear deformation theory. The equations of motion governing the free vibrations are deduced using Hamilton's principle, and the vibration frequencies and loss factors are obtained by solving these equations as an eigenvalue problem. New results for dynamics properties are proposed for the first time, with the change rules of frequencies and loss factors with structural parameters evaluated and presented graphically.

Aman Garg et al.

Summary: Extensive literature on the analysis of sandwich FGM structures discusses the use of these structures as important structural elements. This review study categorizes available manuscripts based on theories, material homogenization rules, and analysis methods, setting a benchmark for future research in this area. Studies on sandwich FGM structures under different loading conditions provide insights into the effects of porosities, hygrothermal loadings, and structures resting on elastic foundations.

Summary: The study investigates the nonlinear forced vibrations of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich cylindrical shells with porosities on an elastic substrate. Energy approach combined with Galerkin scheme and pseudo-arclength continuation method is used to analyze the effects of core-to-thickness ratio, porosity volume fraction, power-law exponent, and external excitation on the nonlinear forced vibration characteristics of FGM sandwich shells with porosities.
