Plug-flow reactor and shock-tube study of the oxidation of very fuel-rich natural gas/DME/O2 mixtures

D. Kaczmarek et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reaction mechanisms of fuel-rich natural gas/dimethyl ether mixtures, revealing the role of dimethyl ether in forming radicals at low temperatures and initiating the conversion of alkanes, as well as the interaction between alkanes and dimethyl ether in promoting the formation of synthesis gas, unsaturated hydrocarbons, and oxygenated species. The experimental results are in good agreement with kinetic simulations using literature reaction mechanisms, providing insights into the potential applications of polygeneration processes in internal combustion engines.

Soot-based Global Pathway Analysis: Soot formation and evolution at elevated pressures in co-flow diffusion flames

Dezhi Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the characteristics and changes of soot chemical pathways at elevated pressures through simulating co-flow ethylene diffusion flames at different pressures. A Soot-based Global Pathway Analysis method is developed to extract kinetic information from the complex sooting reacting system. The study reveals the dominance and sensitivity of soot chemical pathways under high pressures.

PAHs controlling soot nucleation in 0.101-0.811MPa ethylene counterflow diffusion flames

Kevin Gleason et al.

Summary: The study compared the concentration distribution, nucleation rate, and dimerization rate of PAHs and soot in diffusion flames at different pressure ranges. It was found that changes in pressure and temperature have a progressively larger impact on aromatics and soot of increasing molecular weight.

Numerical investigation of pressure effects on soot formation in laminar coflow ethylene/air diffusion flames

Junjun Guo et al.

Summary: The study shows that with increasing pressure, the position of PAH species shifts towards the burner, leading to earlier formation of nascent soot. Apart from the increase in density, temperature, and PAH concentration, the increase in particle residence time further promotes the increased soot formation with pressure.
