Building biointegration of Fe2O3-FeOOH coated titanium implant by regulating NIR irradiation in an infected model

Yang Xue et al.

Summary: A dual-layer coating, consisting of Fe2O3-FeOOH nanograins as the outer layer and Zn-doped microporous TiO2 as the inner layer, was fabricated using micro-arc oxidation, hydrothermal treatment, and annealing treatment. The coating showed excellent performance in killing bacteria, eliminating biofilm, and promoting soft tissue integration, which was attributed to the synergistic effect of photothermal response and released ions.

Polymer brush grafted antimicrobial peptide on hydroxyapatite nanorods for highly effective antibacterial performance

Kai Li et al.

Summary: The study found that grafting polymer brushes and HHC-36 did not substantially change the microstructure of the nanorods, but the brushes efficiently increased the load and stability of the HHC-36. HA nanorods themselves cannot kill bacteria, but with the assistance of HHC-36, physical puncturing by nanorods works efficiently in killing Staphylococcus aureus.
