Thermodynamics, kinetics and isothermal studies of chromium (VI) biosorption onto Detarium senegalense stem bark extract coated shale and the regeneration potentials

James Friday Amaku et al.

Summary: DSMS shows excellent chromium adsorption capability, with the adsorption process mainly controlled by pseudo-second-order kinetics and Elovich model, while Langmuir model provides the best fit for adsorption isotherm analysis. The maximum adsorption capacities of DSMS and PSH are 64.98 mg/g and 29.97 mg/g respectively, with thermodynamics revealing that the adsorption of Cr(VI) is feasible, endothermic, and entropy driven. Additionally, after five cycles of reuse, both DSMS and PSH demonstrate effective regeneration and reusability.

Chromium Stress in Plants: Toxicity, Tolerance and Phytoremediation

Dipali Srivastava et al.

Summary: The extensive industrial activities have led to an increase in chromium contamination, which severely affects plant growth and is recognized as a human carcinogen. Cr(VI) is the most toxic and persistent form in soil, and plants uptake Cr through various transporters. Up-regulation of detoxification genes can confer tolerance in plants under Cr stress.

Efficient adsorption-reduction synergistic effects of sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen heteroatom co-doped porous carbon spheres for chromium (VI) removal

Huiyu Li et al.

Summary: The S,N,O-co-doped porous carbon spheres derived from starch effectively removed hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from wastewater. The abundant surface functional groups of carbon spheres significantly improved the adsorption of Cr(VI) by synergistic effect, while the reductive functional groups efficiently reduced adsorbed Cr(VI) into Cr(III). This cooperation between adsorption and reduction mechanisms led to a high removal efficiency of 97% and maximum adsorption capacity of 434 mg/g at 298 K.

Summary: In this study, carbon dots (CDs) were synthesized from Eucommia ulmoides leaves using a hydrothermal technique, resulting in nanomaterial with excellent stability and strong fluorescence emission. The fluorescence signals of the CDs solution were enhanced by aluminum ion in a neutral buffer solution, with a linear correlation to the Al3+ content in the range of 0.01-2.5 mM. The method showed fast and sensitive response with a detection limit of 23 nM, making the CDs a successful sensor for trace Al3+ determination in water samples.
