A pickering emulsion stabilized by chlorella microalgae as an eco-friendly extrusion-based 3D printing ink processable under ambient conditions

Chaesu Kwak et al.

Summary: Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is widely used in various industries, with the extrusion of inks in the form of colloidal suspensions or emulsions being an important processing route for customizable fabrication of complex structures. The study found that 3D structures produced from oil-in-water Pickering emulsions stabilized by chlorella microalgae show significantly reduced defect formation, highlighting their potential for practical applications.

Rheological and flow behavior of water-in-oil Pickering emulsions stabilized with organo-hectorite clay

B. Merad et al.

Summary: The rheological and flow behaviors of Pickering emulsions stabilized with organo-hectorite clay were studied as a function of water concentration. The emulsions showed shear thinning with yield stress non-Newtonian behavior, and flow curves were well correlated with the Herschel-Bulkley model. An exponential increase in yield stress and viscosity values was observed with increasing water concentration up to 50 wt%, without reaching the phase inversion point.

Evaluation of the repartition of the particles in Pickering emulsions in relation with their rheological properties

Santiago F. Velandia et al.

Summary: The study shows that particles play a significant role in the rheological behavior of Pickering emulsions, supporting the existence of a three-dimensional network between droplets. The applied percolation method can quantitatively estimate a viscoelastic link between particles, which significantly affects the viscosity and elastic modulus of the emulsions, contrary to the traditional view of interfacial monolayers stabilizing Pickering emulsions.
