KOH-activated porous biochar with high specific surface area for adsorptive removal of chromium (VI) and naphthalene from water: Affecting factors, mechanisms and reusability exploration

Jianhua Qu et al.

Summary: A high-performance porous biochar (PBCKOH) was successfully synthesized through KOH chemical activation, showing excellent adsorption performance for both Cr(VI) and NAP in water treatment. The PBCKOH achieved high uptake capacities for both contaminants and exhibited multiple kinetics during the adsorption process. The enhanced adsorption of Cr(VI) was mainly attributed to electrostatic attraction, complexation, ion exchange, and reduction actions, while the high NAP uptake was achieved through pore filling and π-π stacking interactions.

Responses of habitat suitability for migratory birds to increased water level during middle of dry season in the two largest freshwater lake wetlands of China

Haipeng Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that increased water level during the middle of dry season had a negative impact on the habitat suitability for Anatidae and Charadriidae in Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake, a neutral impact on Ardeidae, and a lesser negative impact on Laridae in Dongting Lake with no influence on Poyang Lake.

Effect of Fe-N modification on the properties of biochars and their adsorption behavior on tetracycline removal from aqueous solution

Yanglu Mei et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that Fe-N modified biochar produced by mixing rice straw with FeCl3·6H2O and urea showed enhanced adsorption capacity for TC due to the presence of more functional groups and increased surface area and pore volume. The adsorption mechanism of TC on Fe-N-RSBC involved pore filling, hydrogen-bond interaction, surface complexation, and pi-pi interaction. Fe-N-RSBC can be effectively used as an adsorbent for TC removal from aqueous solution.

Enhanced adsorption for the removal of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) using ball-milled biochar derived from crayfish shell

Dawei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study enhanced the adsorption capacity for tetracycline by improving the structure properties of crayfish shell biochar, mainly through physical adsorption mechanisms such as pore filling. The biochar showed excellent reusability and environmental adaptability, indicating its promising application potential for treating tetracycline-contaminated wastewater.
