Association of a traditional Mediterranean diet and non-Mediterranean dietary scores with all-cause and cause-specific mortality: prospective findings from the Moli-sani Study

Marialaura Bonaccio et al.

Summary: Both the traditional Mediterranean diet and DASH diet may reduce the risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular death among Italians, while the Palaeolithic diet seems to only lower the risk of total and other cause mortality, and the Nordic diet is unlikely to provide any substantial health benefit.

Mediterranean diet and the hallmarks of ageing

Oliver M. Shannon et al.

Summary: Ageing is a multifactorial process that involves reduced function and increased risk of diseases and death. Healthy dietary patterns can reduce the risk of age-related diseases and increase longevity by positively influencing cellular and molecular hallmarks of ageing. The Mediterranean dietary pattern, characterized by plant-based foods, has been associated with better health during ageing and may impact each hallmark of ageing positively.

Summary: A study revealed that a diet rich in polyphenols can slow down the biological aging process, reduce Delta age, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, and possibly have positive effects on bone health.
