This study found that a patient exposed to infected dogs in a breeding facility was diagnosed with Brucella canis infection. The transboundary spread of B. canis through (illegal) import of infected dogs to non-endemic countries in Europe suggests the need to consider B. canis infection in European patients with occupational exposure to dogs.
