Removal of metal ions using a new magnetic chitosan nano-bio-adsorbent; A powerful approach in water treatment

Fatemeh Karimi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the EDTA functionalization of M-Cs nanocomposite significantly enhanced its adsorption capacity for Cu, Cd, and Zn ions. The maximum adsorption capacity followed the order of Cd(II) > Cu(II) > Zn(II) with the highest efficiency achieved at pH 5.3. The adsorption process was found to be exothermic and spontaneous in nature.

Cyanazine herbicide monitoring as a hazardous substance by a DNA nanostructure biosensor

Hassan Karimi-Maleh et al.

Summary: The research focused on monitoring cyanazine levels using an electrochemical strategy, synthesizing a Pt-Pd-CdO/SWCNTs composite and modifying a gold electrode for detection. The composite showed improved conductivity and lower charge-transfer resistance, allowing for monitoring of cyanazine at nanomolar concentrations. Differential pulse voltammograms indicated a linear dynamic range and detection limit, while molecular docking studies supported experimental results. The composite was successfully utilized for monitoring cyanazine in food and water samples.

A comparative study of CO catalytic oxidation on the single vacancy and di-vacancy graphene supported single-atom iridium catalysts: A DFT analysis

Aykan Akca et al.

Summary: In this study, the mechanism of CO oxidation over Ir embedded on single vacancy and di-vacancy graphene was investigated using DFT. The results indicate that both Ir-GN(SV) and Ir-GN(DV) have high catalytic activity and selectivity towards CO oxidation. These findings suggest that the proposed catalysts could serve as promising SAC for CO oxidation at low temperatures, potentially paving the way for the development of enhanced-performance Ir-based heterogeneous catalysts.

Biodegradable polymers and their nano-composites for the removal of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) from wastewater: A review

Miral Al Sharabati et al.

Summary: Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) interfere with natural hormones in the endocrine system, leading to adverse effects on human and animal health, making their removal from wastewater vital. Adsorption has been proposed as a promising method for EDC removal, with biodegradable polymers showing potential as effective adsorbents. The use of natural and synthetic biodegradable polymers for EDC removal in wastewater treatment is still limited, but holds promise for future exploration in sustainable adsorbents.
