Fe3+-citric acid/sodium alginate hydrogel: A photo-responsive platform for rapid water purification

Yueshan Li et al.

Summary: A novel sodium alginate-based hydrogel (Fe3+-CA/SA hydrogel) with multi-leveled pore structure and photo-chromic ability was reported for efficient photocatalytic degradation of malachite green in wastewater treatment. This hydrogel showed high photocatalytic efficiency under 365 nm UV light irradiation, degrading around 95% of malachite green in about 4 min without the need for adding H2O2. The study expands the application of sodium alginate-based hydrogels in water treatment and has exploratory significance for the principle of photocatalytic degradation of malachite green.

Performance of Pd/Sn catalysts supported by chelating resin prestoring reductant for nitrate reduction in actual water

Jialu Shi et al.

Summary: Catalytic hydrogen reduction has shown promise as a strategy for chemical denitrification, with high activity and simple operation. However, the disadvantages include the risks and low utilization of H2. Studies on catalytic reduction reactions using NaBH4 as an electron source have been conducted, but widespread use of NaBH4 could be costly and environmentally polluting. The prepared Pd/Sn bimetallic nanoparticles can adsorb NaBH4 during preparation, eliminating the need for additional reducing agents during nitrate reduction and showing potential for denitrification in wastewater treatment plants.

Combined production of metallic-iron nanoparticles: exergy and energy analysis of two alternative processes using Hydrazine and NaBH4 as reducing agents

Giorgio Vilardi et al.

Summary: This study compares the profitability and energy efficiency of two processes for producing metallic iron nanoparticles using hydrated hydrazine and sodium borohydride. The results show that the sodium borohydride-based process is more profitable and energy-efficient than the hydrazine-based one. Despite the hydrazine-based process producing high purity iron nanoparticles, the borohydride-based process has lower energy consumption and higher exergy efficiency.

Effect of inorganic anions on the performance of advanced oxidation processes for degradation of organic contaminants

Jianlong Wang et al.

Summary: Inorganic anions such as chloride, carbonate, phosphate, sulfate, and nitrate have a significant impact on the performance of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs). This influence is not solely attributed to their quenching effect, but also affects reactive species, oxidant stability, catalyst activity, and degradation products. Understanding the comprehensive evaluation of the effect of inorganic anions on AOPs is crucial for optimizing the treatment of organic pollutants.

Boosting the H2 Production Efficiency via Photocatalytic Organic Reforming: The Role of Additional Hole Scavenging System

Yamen AlSalka et al.

Summary: The study investigated the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from oxalic acid and found that the photo-Kolbe reaction mechanism contributed to the generation of a small amount of formic acid, which disappeared after oxalic acid consumption. Adding KI as an additional hole scavenger had a considerable impact on the reaction mechanism, promoting H-2 evolution to reach the theoretically predictable amount without affecting the oxalic acid degradation rate.
