Application of HepG2/C3A liver spheroids as a model system for genotoxicity studies

Nicholas J. Coltman et al.

Summary: HepG2/C3A 3D spheroids serve as a sensitive model for in vitro genotoxicity assessment, showing significant transcriptional upregulation of xenobiotic metabolising genes and genes linked to liver function. These spheroids exhibit heightened sensitivity to model progenotoxicants and compound-induced DNA damage compared to 2D monolayers. This model holds potential applications in early stage drug development.
