Kinetics and mechanism of arsenic removal using sulfide-modified nanoscale zerovalent iron

Payel Singh et al.

Summary: Sulphur modified nano zerovalent iron (S?nZVI) has shown high efficiency in removing inorganic arsenic from water, especially under acidic conditions. The addition of FeS on the surface of nZVI can significantly alter the sequestration mechanism of arsenic, leading to enhanced removal efficiency in contaminated water.

Groundwater geochemical constituents controlling the reductive dechlorination of TCE by nZVI: Evidence from diverse anaerobic corrosion mechanisms of nZVI

Xinmin Yang et al.

Summary: The corrosion mechanisms of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) were studied with different groundwater geochemical constituents and their impact on the reductive dechlorination of trichloroethylene (TCE). The study showed that different geochemical constituents had varying effects on the corrosion process, providing a theoretical basis for the long-term application of nZVI technology in TCE-contaminated sites.

In situ nanoremediation of soils and groundwaters from the nanoparticle's standpoint: A review

Lionel Marcon et al.

Summary: Anthropogenic pollution from various sources can lead to the release of toxic substances into the environment, affecting ecosystems and human health. Nanoparticles offer potential benefits for environmental cleanup, but their use also poses ecological risks that need to be carefully evaluated. The development and application of nanoremediators require a comprehensive consideration of scientific, technical, and regulatory challenges to ensure their safe and effective use in the future.

Critical roles of sulfidation solvent in controlling surface properties and the dechlorination reactivity of S-nZVI

Xiaoyuan Li et al.

Summary: The sulfidation of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) was enhanced by using hydrogen sulfide dissolved in absolute ethanol, resulting in improved specific surface area, reduced susceptibility to oxidation, increased reduction potential, decreased electron-transfer resistance, and enhanced reactivity towards trichloroethylene compared to aqueous sulfides. The solvent used in the sulfidation process plays a critical role in controlling the structure, physicochemical properties, and dechlorination reactivity of S-nZVI.

Lightweight Fe3C@Fe/C nanocomposites derived from wasted cornstalks with high-efficiency microwave absorption and ultrathin thickness

Guangyu Qi et al.

Summary: Carbon materials have great potential in producing microwave absorbers, with Fe3C@Fe/C composites obtained from wasted cornstalks showing excellent absorption capabilities. The credit for this lies in the impedance matching and attenuation properties of the composites, as well as the synergistic influence of dielectric and magnetic losses in the porous microstructure. A low-cost method using agricultural waste is proposed to reduce pollution caused by burning cornstalks.
