Quantifying Variations in Metal-Ligand Cooperative Binding Strength with Cyclic Voltammetry and Redox-Active Ligands

Kyle D. Spielvogel et al.

Summary: Metal-ligand cooperativity (MLC) is a powerful approach to achieve new chemical transformations with metal complexes by leveraging reactive ligands. However, quantifying the effect of ligand modifications on MLC binding strength remains a challenge. In this study, cyclic voltammetry (CV) was used to quantify the differences in MLC binding strength in a series of square-pyramidal Ru complexes.

Elaboration on the Electronics of Salen Manganese Nitrides: Investigations into Alkoxy-Substituted Ligand Scaffolds

Nicholas M. Hein et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of various alkoxy substituents on the ligand electronics of salen manganese nitride complexes, including the first documentation of para Hammett value for the tert-butoxy substituent. Experimental and theoretical methods were used to provide plausible electronic structures of the dications formed during bis-oxidation of the manganese complexes.

Promotion and Tuning of the Electrochemical Reduction of Hetero- and Homobimetallic Zinc Complexes**

Shaun R. Kelsey et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electrochemical properties of macrocyclic complexes containing a zinc(II) center paired with secondary metal cations or homometallic zinc cations, highlighting the influence of secondary metal ions on the structure and redox properties of bimetallic complexes. The complexes containing stronger Lewis acids exhibit larger reduction potential shifts, and the zinc(II) complexes show faster electron transfer when incorporating di- or trivalent Lewis acids compared to monovalent sodium, offering insights into metal- versus ligand-centered reduction in bimetallic complexes.
