Deoxygenation of Nitrous Oxide and Nitro Compounds Using Bis(N-Heterocyclic Silylene)Amido Iron Complexes as Catalysts

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: Efficient degradation of N2O using an iron complex catalyst with well-defined bis(silylene)amido ligands is reported. Mechanistic studies reveal the significance of iron-silicon cooperativity in the catalytic transformation. The method has also been developed for catalytic reductions of nitro compounds with excellent chemoselectivity.

Reactions of Late First-Row Transition Metal (Fe-Zn) Dichlorides with a PGeP Pincer Germylene

Ana Arauzo et al.

Summary: The reactivity of PGeP germylene with late first-row transition metal dichlorides has been investigated, leading to the formation of various pincer chloridogermyl complexes. Different transition metals resulted in different paramagnetic or square planar complexes, indicating a variety of spin states and behaviors. Reactivity with NiCl2 and CuCl2 also produced different complexes, showcasing a versatile reactivity of the germylene compound.

Alternative Conceptual Approach to the Design of Bifunctional Catalysts: An Osmium Germylene System for the Dehydrogenation of Formic Acid

Maria L. Buil et al.

Summary: The reaction of hexahydride OsH6(PiPr(3))(2) with a P,Ge,P-germylene-diphosphine leads to an osmium tetrahydride derivative with a Ge,P-chelate, serving as a bifunctional catalyst for formic acid dehydrogenation. The study reveals that hydrogen formation occurs exclusively on the coordination sphere of the metal center, while both the metal center and the sigma-donor Lewis acid cooperatively participate in CO2 release, which is the rate-determining step.

Progress in the preparation and characterization of silylene iron, cobalt and nickel complexes

Wenjing Yang et al.

Summary: Silylene ligands have strong electron-donating ability towards the metal center, facilitating oxidative addition reactions and exhibiting good catalytic activity. Future challenges include developing new polydentate silylene ligands, synthesizing chelate silylene-phosphine and silylene-carbene ligands, and designing more silylene transition metal complexes for catalytic research.

Boosting homogeneous chemoselective hydrogenation of olefins mediated by a bis(silylenyl)terphenyl-nickel(0) pre-catalyst

Marcel-Philip Luecke et al.

Summary: Two new ligands were synthesized and studied, one of which demonstrated high catalytic activity in the hydrogenation of olefins under mild conditions, achieving the highest performance of a homogeneous nickel-based catalyst. The coordination mode of the Ni(0) site by the intramolecular phenylene was found to play a crucial role in the catalytic activity, as revealed by kinetic measurements and correlation experiments.

Catalysis using transition metal complexes featuring main group metal and metalloid compounds as supporting ligands

Jun Takaya

Summary: Recent research has demonstrated the promising utility of transition metal complexes with M-E bonds stabilized by multidentate ligands, where E represents a main group metal or metalloid element. Main group metal and metalloid ligands provide unique electronic and steric environments to transition metals, leading to remarkable catalytic activity and product selectivity. This perspective highlights the potential of these compounds as a new class of supporting ligands for transition metal catalysts in synthetic chemistry.
