Stereodivergent Pd/Cu Catalysis for Asymmetric Desymmetric Alkylation of Allylic Geminal Dicarboxylates

Xiaohong Huo et al.

Summary: A stereodivergent Pd/Cu catalyst system has been developed for the asymmetric desymmetric alkylation of allylic geminal dicarboxylates, enabling the synthesis of beta-hydroxycarbonyl motifs with versatile carbon-carbon double bonds in an enantio- and diastereodivergent manner. The catalytic system shows compatibility with a wide range of substrates and delivers high yields of substituted products with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. The mechanism of this dual Pd/Cu catalytic system has been thoroughly investigated using theoretical calculations.

Dispersion and Steric Effects on Enantio-/Diastereoselectivities in Synergistic Dual Transition-Metal Catalysis

Bo Li et al.

Summary: Comprehensive computational studies were conducted to investigate the mechanisms of enantioselective Cu/Pd and stereodivergent Cu/Ir dual-catalytic syntheses of alpha,alpha-disubstituted alpha-amino acids (alpha-AAs). The results demonstrate how ligand-encoded chiral information is transferred to the alpha-/beta-sites of the resulting alpha-AAs and how the mode of regio-/stereoselection is altered by differences in transition-metal-stabilized coupling partners.

Enantioselective Radical SN2-Type Alkylation of Morita-Baylis-Hillman Adducts Using Dual Photoredox/Palladium Catalysis

Xiangbin Bai et al.

Summary: This study presents an enantioselective radical alkylation of 4-alkyl-1,4-dihydropyridines with Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) adducts using dual photoredox/palladium catalysis, yielding products with good yields and enantioselectivity. The use of Ding's spiroketal-based bis-(phosphine) (SKP) ligand is crucial for achieving satisfactory regio- and enantioselectivity in this reaction. The resulting alpha,beta-unsaturated ester can be easily reduced to a synthetically useful chiral allyl alcohol.

Mechanistic Origins of Stereodivergence in Asymmetric Cascade Allylation and Cyclization Reactions Enabled by Synergistic Cu/Ir Catalysis

Hui Xu et al.

Summary: The stereodivergent synthesis of bioactive tetrahydro-gamma-carbolines was achieved through synergistic chiral Cu/Ir catalysis, involving the generation of three stereogenic centers via two consecutive C-C formation procedures. Density functional theory calculations were used to elucidate the mechanism and stereochemistry origins of the catalytic asymmetric cascade allylation and iso-Pictet-Spengler cyclization reaction. The study provides insights into the control of absolute stereoselectivity by two distinct chiral metal catalysts, offering potential for further development of stereodivergent synthesis via cooperative bimetallic catalysis.
