Hierarchical molecular design of high-performance infrared nonlinear Ag2HgI4 material by defect engineering strategy

C. Yang et al.

Summary: Mid-far infrared nonlinear optical (NLO) materials have attracted increasing scientific and technological interest due to their wide applications. Through hierarchical molecular design strategy, a promising NLO material Ag2HgI4 was synthesized by a simple solution method, showing strong second harmonic generation (SHG) response and wide transparency range. Theoretical calculations provided insights on nonlinearity enhancement and broadening transmittance, attributing to reduced phonon frequency and increased nonbonding electronic states on top valence band.

M6PS5X (M = Ag, Cu; X = Cl, Br) chalcohalides exhibiting strong nonlinear optical responses and high laser damage resistances

Lihua Gao et al.

Summary: A series of new nonlinear optical chalcohalides with special MS3X ligands have been synthesized and systematically tested, showing strong NLO responses and high laser-damage thresholds, indicating their potential as good NLO candidates. First-principles calculations were used to study their structure-property relationships, suggesting that chalcohalides could be promising systems for exploring new IR NLO crystals.

From thiophosphate to chalcohalide: mixed-anion AgSxCly ligands concurrently enhancing nonlinear optical effects and laser-damage threshold

Lihua Gao et al.

Summary: A new design strategy was proposed in this study, introducing unique mixed-anion AgSxCly ligands into thiophosphate to synthesize promising Ag5PS4Cl2 IR NLO chalcohalide. The theoretical analysis indicates that AgSxCly groups are superior NLO-active units, contributing to the NLO effects while maintaining the wide bandgap. Incorporating AgSxCly groups into crystal structures is expected to be a feasible way to design new IR NLO candidates with excellent performance.
