Novel donor-acceptor-acceptor ternary conjugated microporous polymers with boosting forward charge separation and suppressing backward charge recombination for photocatalytic reduction of uranium (VI)

Fengtao Yu et al.

Summary: A series of D-A(1)-A(2) terpolymers were developed through adjusting the monomer feed molar ratio, which can effectively inhibit charge recombination and facilitate charge separation for the photoreduction of uranium. Among them, PTrSO-2 with a FMR of 0.75:1.0:0.75 achieved a remarkable 99.5% photocatalytic U(VI) reduction efficiency within 120 min of visible-light irradiation, surpassing most reported photocatalysts for similar applications. This work provides a new strategy and unconventional thinking for the development of CMPs photocatalysts in the treatment of radioactive wastewater.

Solar light-responsive CdS/UiO-66-NH2 for ultrafast uranium reduction from uranium-containing mine wastewater without external sacrificial agents

Zifan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, CdS/UiO-66-NH2 nanoparticles photocatalysts were successfully prepared and applied for the efficient reduction of uranium hexavalent without sacrificial agents. The results showed that under sunlight irradiation, a significant amount of U(VI) in the mine wastewater can be removed. This work represents an important step towards remediation of radioactive environment from mine wastewater, and promotes the extensive application of photocatalysis technology.

CuS/TiO2 nanotube arrays heterojunction for the photoreduction of uranium (VI)

Zifan Li et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized CuS/TNTAs heterostructured nanocomposites (CUTN) with different CuS contents via successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method. CUTN-10 exhibited the best photocatalytic performance, removing 92.6% of U(VI) within 180 minutes. The CuS provided photoelectrons, and TNTAs transported them to the adsorbed U(VI) surface, leading to reduced uranium sediment in the form of (UO2)O·2H2O.

Tunable perylene-based donor-acceptor conjugated microporous polymer to significantly enhance photocatalytic uranium extraction from seawater

Fengtao Yu et al.

Summary: A molecular engineering strategy was introduced to enhance the photocatalytic performance of donor-acceptor conjugated microporous polymers for U(VI) reduction. Two new polymers, ECUTCO and ECUT-SO, were designed with tailored acceptors, with ECUT-SO achieving ultrahigh photocatalytic performance for uranium (VI) reduction. Experiments and DFT calculations showed the high dependence of photocatalytic activity on the acceptors, with ECUT-SO demonstrating optimized visible-light response, excellent photo-exciton separation, and stronger coordination sites for UO22+.
