The occurrence of PFAS in human placenta and their binding abilities to human serum albumin and organic anion transporter 4

Yao Lu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence of both legacy and emerging PFAS in human placenta, revealing different concentrations and detection frequencies of various PFAS. Molecular docking calculations showed that the binding affinities of PFAS with proteins are correlated with chain length, indicating a close relationship between placental transfer of PFAS and chain length.

Exposure to Perfluoroalkyl Chemicals and Cardiovascular Disease: Experimental and Epidemiological Evidence

Alessandra Meneguzzi et al.

Summary: PFAS, widely used organic chemicals, are major contributors to environmental pollution due to their stability. Exposure to PFAS has been linked to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, possibly through altering lipid and glucose metabolism, raising blood pressure, and promoting thrombus formation. Studies suggest that PFAS can incorporate into platelet membranes, enhancing platelet functions and potentially contributing to the observed increase in cardiovascular events in populations exposed to PFAS.
