Weak σ-Hole Triel Bond between C5H5Tr (Tr=B, Al, Ga) and Haloethyne: Substituent and Cooperativity Effects

Qingqing Yang et al.

Summary: The replacement of a CH group of benzene by a triel (Tr) atom places a positive region of electrostatic potential near the Tr atom in the plane of the aromatic ring. This sigma-hole can interact with an X lone pair of XCCH (X=F, Cl, Br, and I) to form a triel bond (TrB). The interaction energy between C5H5Tr and FCCH lies in the range between 2.2 and 4.4 kcal/mol, in the order Tr=B.

Classification of So-Called Non-Covalent Interactions Based on VSEPR Model

Slawomir J. Grabowski

Summary: The analysis of various interactions mentioned shows that different types of interactions can influence different chemical reactions in chemical and biological processes. However, the fact that the same type of interaction may be classified differently leads to ongoing debates on classification and nomenclature of interactions.

Which triel bond is stronger? TrHX•••H2Y versus TrH2X•••H2Y (Tr = Ga, In; X = F, Cl, Br, I; Y = O, S)

Xiaoting Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of triel atom valence on triel bond formation. Theoretical research reveals the mechanisms of TrHX and TrH2X molecules in triel bonding, suggesting that TrH2X molecule is more likely to form a stronger triel bond compared to TrHX molecule.

The influence of monomer deformation on triel and tetrel bonds between TrR3/TR4 (Tr = Al, Ga, In; T = Si, Ge, Sn) and N-base (N-base = HCN, NH3, CN-)

Xiaoting Wang et al.

Summary: The interaction energies between Lewis acid TrF3 and TF4 molecules (Tr = Al, Ga, In and T = Si, Ge, Sn) and HCN, NH3, and CN- Lewis base molecules are significant, with deformation energy playing a key role in determining binding energy, particularly for complexes containing Al or Sn central atom. Triel and tetrel bonds can still form even without adjusting internal geometries, but their interaction energies are drastically weakened, dropping by 18% to 90%. Monomer deformation also contributes to complexation by strengthening its pi/sigma-hole by up to 2.6 times.
