Indirect DNA transfer without contact from dried biological materials on various surfaces

Devon Thornbury et al.

Summary: This study investigated the drying properties and indirect DNA transfer of various forensically relevant biological materials on different substrates through tapping and stretching agitations. Different drying trends were observed based on volume, substrate, and biological material, with substrate type generally having a greater influence. The rate and percentage of indirect transfer appeared to be dependent on agitation, substrate type, biological material, and drying properties.

Impact of surface roughness on the deposition of saliva and fingerprint residue on non-porous substrates

Deborah A. Hughes et al.

Summary: The study found that surface roughness and physicochemical interactions have significant impacts on the lateral spread of saliva deposits and fingerprint residue on surfaces. Additionally, surface free energy and the nature of the deposit also impact these dynamics.
