CeO2/SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposite was synthesized and used for high-pressure CO2 absorption. The addition of CeO2/SiO2/TiO2 in different nanofluids was found to significantly enhance CO2 absorption, and the stability of the nanocomposite also affected the CO2 absorption performance.
In this investigation, CeO2/SiO2/TiO2 nanocomposite was synthesized and used for carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption in a high-pressure batch mode. To do so, the nanocomposite with the concentration range of 0.05-0.15 wt.% was dispersed in distilled water (DW), methyl diethanolamine (MDEA) as a chemical CO2 absorbent and N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as a physical CO2 absorbent to enhance the absorption of CO2. The influences of initial pressure, solvent type and nanocomposite mass concentration on the CO2 absorption were elucidated. Experimental results demonstrated that the CeO2/SiO2/TiO2/MDEA nanofluid could increase the CO2 absorption up to 8.71% as compared to MDEA solvent alone, the CeO2/SiO2/TiO2/DW nanofluid enhanced the CO2 gas absorption more than 23.47% as compared to DW, and eventually CeO2/SiO2/TiO2/NMP nanofluid improved the CO2 gas absorption more than 13.5% as compared to NMP solution. Moreover, the results obtained from the Zeta potential tests showed that the nanofluids with different base fluids with the nanocomposite concentration of less than 0.1 wt.% have significant stability as compared to those with the nanocomposite concentration of more than 0.1 wt.%. Experimental results of CO2 absorption demonstrated that stable nanofluids have greater CO2 absorption performance in comparison to unstable nanofluids.
