Facile coordination driven synthesis of metal-organic gels toward efficiently electrocatalytic overall water splitting

Xinghao Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a strategy for fabricating metalorganic gels (MOGs) through electrochemical overall water splitting was reported. The Ni0.6Fe0.4-MOG exhibited excellent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance and moderate hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance in 1 M KOH, outperforming most polymer catalysts. This work demonstrates that MOGs have the potential to surpass current polymer catalysts for electrocatalysis.

Trifle Pt coupled with NiFe hydroxide synthesized via corrosion engineering to boost the cleavage of water molecule for alkaline water-splitting

Ying Zhao et al.

Summary: Efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts are crucial for catalyzing water electrolysis, and the NiFe-LDH-based NF-Na-Fe-Pt electrocatalyst demonstrated excellent performance and long-term durability in mediating the water-splitting process. Synergistic effects between NiFe-LDH and noble metals were found to enhance the catalytic activity for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions.

Branch-leaf-shaped CuNi@NiFeCu nanodendrites as highly efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting

Dong Cao et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized distinctive branch-leaf-shaped CuNi@NiFeCu nanodendrites as an efficient electrocatalyst for water splitting. The optimized structure prevents agglomeration of nanosheets, provides numerous crystalline-amorphous interfaces, and oxygen vacancies, which enhances reaction kinetics and overall performance. This work presents an original strategy to improve the activity of 2D materials.

Phosphorus doped nickel-molybdenum aerogel for efficient overall water splitting

Bing Zhang et al.

Summary: A P-doped Ni-Mo bimetal aerogel (Ni-Mo-P) was developed as a cost-effective bifunctional water splitting electrocatalyst, demonstrating impressive HER and OER performance with low overpotentials. This was attributed to electron redistribution by Mo alloying and P doping, as well as optimal bond strength between H* and active sites. The Ni-Mo-P catalyst required a low cell voltage to achieve an overall water splitting current density of 10 mA cm-2.

Palladium Nanobelts with Expanded Lattice Spacing for Electrochemical Oxygen Reduction in Alkaline Media

Yihui Wang et al.

Summary: A Pd nanobelt catalyst with expanded lattice spacing was developed, exhibiting high activity and excellent durability in an alkaline medium. The surface-specific and mass activities of the carbon-supported Pd NBs catalyst were found to be significantly higher than the commercial Pt/C catalyst. Density functional theory calculations suggested that the enhanced activity could be attributed to the expanded lattice spacing reducing the free energy of intermediates on the Pd surface.
