Polymer composites with expanded graphite network with superior thermal conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding performance

Baojie Wei et al.

Summary: A method was developed to fabricate enhanced 3D expanded graphite (EG) network by pre-melt blending of EG with stearic acid and polyethylene wax, followed by powder mixing and thermal molding with linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) particles. The introduction of small molecular compounds significantly reduced micro gaps in EG, leading to increased thermal conductivity to ultrahigh levels.

A green approach to preparing hydrophobic, electrically conductive textiles based on waterborne polyurethane for electromagnetic interference shielding with low reflectivity

Mengwei Dai et al.

Summary: A green method was used to fabricate a coated textile with hydrophobic surface that provided electromagnetic interference shielding performance with low reflectivity. The coated textile achieved 35 dB EMI SE with only 0.35 mm thickness and 41.4% reflectivity. By dip-coating textiles with different filler loadings, a two-layer structure coating could be obtained with 30 dB EMI SE and 26.5% reflectivity, indicating 26.5% of electromagnetic waves were reflected. The coated textiles show great potential in advanced EMI shielding applications.

Nano-bridge effect on thermal conductivity of hybrid polymer composites incorporating 1D and 2D nanocarbon fillers

Ji-un Jang et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that the fraction of the secondary filler inducing the maximum synergistic effect decreases with increasing total filler content, leading to an anti-synergistic effect at high fractions. Effective phonon transfer and high thermal conductivity can be achieved at the optimum fraction due to improved filler network formation. The Kim-Jang-Lee model was proposed for both the synergistic and anti-synergistic effects based on the ratio of fillers in the composites.

Resonance Raman characterization of poly(benzidine) in different oxidation states

Gustavo M. do Nascimento et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structure of poly(benzidine) in different oxidation and protonation states using Raman spectroscopy, showing an increase in bands related to protonated segments in doped PBZ. The lack of significant changes in band position with laser line suggests low conjugation between segments in the polymeric backbone, explaining the lower conductivity observed for PBZ compared to polyaniline.
