Is Pt/C More Electrocatalytic than Ru/C for Hydrogen Evolution in Alkaline Electrolytes?

Ru-Yang Shao et al.

Summary: Contrary to previous studies on bulk metals, nanoparticles of Ru supported on carbon (Ru/C) exhibit higher electrocatalytic performance for alkaline hydrogen evolution reactions (HERs) compared to Pt supported on carbon (Pt/C). Both commercial and homemade Ru/C catalysts are even more active than most reported Ru-based materials, suggesting that Ru/C should be used as a benchmark material for evaluating the alkaline HER performance of catalysts instead of Pt/C.

Activity and stability of Ir-based gas diffusion electrode for proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer

Jeong Hyun Oh et al.

Summary: A facile strategy to fabricate Ir-based gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) is proposed in this study. By modulating the Ir oxidation state, the electrodes exhibit excellent activity and stability for the oxygen evolution reaction in the proton exchange membrane water electrolyzer (PEMWE). The Ir-based GDEs show superior mass activity and acceptable stability during long-term operations, highlighting their potential for efficient hydrogen production.
