MoS2 nanosheets vertically aligned on biochar as a robust peroxymonosulfate activator for removal of tetracycline

Xinyue Su et al.

Summary: MoS2 nanosheets were vertically aligned on biochar calcined from Chinese cabbage and used to activate peroxymonosulfate, enhancing tetracycline removal in water solutions. The composites exhibited excellent catalytic efficiencies through synergistic radical and non-radical processes, showing better catalytic abilities than pristine biochar. This indicates that biochar/MoS2 materials are promising catalysts in SO4 center dot- based advanced oxidation processes.

Almost 100 % Peroxymonosulfate Conversion to Singlet Oxygen on Single-Atom CoN2+2 Sites

Xueyue Mi et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a strategy to regulate the generation of reactive oxygen species by atomically dispersed cobalt anchored on nitrogen-doped carbon, with singlet oxygen being the predominant reactive oxygen species. The generated singlet oxygen is capable of degrading various organic pollutants efficiently across a broad pH range, providing new theoretical support for the singlet oxygen generation mechanism in peroxymonosulfate activation.

Understanding oxygen-deficient La2CuO4-δ perovskite activated peroxymonosulfate for bisphenol A degradation: The role of localized electron within oxygen vacancy

Hanxiao Chen et al.

Summary: An A(2)BO(4)-type oxygen-deficient perovskite (La2CuO4-delta, LCO) shows superior low-temperature reducibility and more abundant oxygen vacancies (OVs) compared to CuO oxide, and was successfully used in peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation for more than 96% BPA removal within 60 mM over a wide pH range. The activation mechanism involves surface Cu(II)/Cu (I) redox couple, lattice oxygen (O2-)/O-2, and direct activation of PMS by OVs with localized electrons.

Review on carbonaceous materials as persulfate activators: structure-performance relationship, mechanism and future perspectives on water treatment

Daniel T. Oyekunle et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that structural adjustments, modifications, and modulation of carbonaceous materials can significantly influence persulfate activation performance in advanced oxidation processes. By tweaking carbon structural features, such as crystal structure, defects, porous structure, surface area, pore size, and oxygen-containing groups, the reaction mechanism can be altered, leading to better control over the persulfate activation process. Discussions also included the influence of reaction pathways on degradation or intermediate products, as well as future research directions for improving the design and properties of carbonaceous catalysts.
