Electronic interaction between transition metal single-atoms and anatase TiO2 boosts CO2 photoreduction with H2O

Byoung-Hoon Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of transition metal single atoms on CO2 photoreduction on TiO2 photocatalysts, using a combination of material design, spectroscopic analyses, and theoretical studies. It was found that the electronic interaction between single Cu atoms and TiO2 affects the reducibility of the surface, leading to spontaneous formation of O vacancies near Cu atoms, which cooperatively stabilize CO2 intermediates. Optimized Cu-1/TiO2 photocatalysts exhibit a 66-fold enhancement in CO2 photoreduction performance compared to pristine TiO2, showing the importance of uniform distribution of single atoms in enhancing photocatalytic processes.

Adsorption and solid-phase photocatalytic degradation of perfluorooctane sulfonate in water using gallium-doped carbon-modified titanate nanotubes

Yangmo Zhu et al.

Summary: The new adsorptive photocatalyst Ga/TNTs@AC showed faster adsorption kinetics and higher affinity for PFOS, degrading and mineralizing a significant percentage of pre-sorbed PFOS within a short UV irradiation time. The efficient PFOS photodegradation regenerates the catalyst for repeated uses without the need for chemical regenerants, attributing to the oxygen vacancies that facilitate O-2(center dot-) generation and suppress recombination of e(-)/h(+) pairs. The degradation of PFOS by Ga/TNTs@AC involves the cleavage of the sulfonate group and conversion into PFOA through a stepwise defluorination mechanism.

Hydrogen Adsorption at the Au/TiO2 Interface: Quantitative Determination and Spectroscopic Signature of the Reactive Interface Hydroxyl Groups at the Active Site

Akbar Mahdavi-Shakib et al.

Summary: Infrared spectroscopy reveals that H-2 adsorption on Au/TiO2 catalysts occurs heterolytically at the metal-support interface, generating stable protonated MSI hydroxyls. Au modifies the local structural and electronic properties of the support, leading to an increase in the basicity of electron-rich MSI hydroxyls. This synergism between Au and TiO2 results in electron-deficient Au particles and more electron-rich MSI hydroxyls, contributing to stronger Lewis acids and Bronsted bases, respectively.

Synergistic Effect of Dielectric Property and Energy Transfer on Charge Separation in Non-Fullerene-Based Solar Cells

Pandeng Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a modified approach was developed to estimate the dielectric constants of PM6 donor and non-fullerene acceptors, revealing higher dielectric constants in most non-fullerene acceptors and blend films, along with significant differences in dielectric constants at optical frequencies. These results are likely associated with reduced exciton binding energy and bimolecular recombination. Furthermore, the overlap between the emission spectrum of the donor and absorption spectrum of the non-fullerene acceptors facilitates energy transfer and efficient charge separation, suggesting a synergistic effect contributing to the physical working mechanism in non-fullerene-based photovoltaic devices.
