Mn-O Covalency Governs the Intrinsic Activity of Co-Mn Spinel Oxides for Boosted Peroxymonosulfate Activation

Zhi-Yan Guo et al.

Summary: The covalency of TM-O bonds plays a critical role in governing the intrinsic catalytic activity of bimetallic spinel oxides, enhancing electron transfer and favoring interactions with PMS. By balancing PMS adsorption and metal reduction reactions, remarkable catalytic activities for PMS activation and pollutant degradation can be achieved, leading to the development of more active and robust metal oxide catalysts.

CoO-3D ordered mesoporous carbon nitride (CoO@mpgCN) composite as peroxymonosulfate activator for the degradation of sulfamethoxazole in water

Thanh Binh Nguyen et al.

Summary: The CoO@mpgCN/PMS system showed high catalytic reactivity and SMX removal efficiency over a wide pH range, with stable and consistent degradation capacity for at least five consecutive cycles. The significant catalysis performance was attributed to the uniformly distributed mesopores, large specific surface area, and high electron transfer ability of CoO@mpgCN at the active CoO sites, leading to a radical chain reaction mechanism for SMX degradation.

Abdul Hannan Asif et al.

Summary: This study synthesized iron oxide nanospheres with different cobalt doping levels for the degradation of p-hydroxybenzoic acid using peroxymonosulfate. The catalyst with 3% cobalt doping showed the best performance, possibly due to larger specific surface area. The study confirmed the higher stability of the catalyst during the degradation process.

Degradation of antibiotics in aqueous media using manganese nanocatalyst-activated peroxymonosulfate

Aimal Khan et al.

Summary: epsilon-MnO2 efficiently activates peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of emerging pollutants, generating sulfate, hydroxyl, superoxide, and singlet oxygen radicals. The system is effective in a wide pH range and the degradation of pollutants is not significantly influenced by the presence of inorganic anions or natural organic matter. The proposed activation pathway involves inner-sphere interactions and electron transfer, leading to the generation of reactive oxygen species.
