α-PbO2-type niobate as efficient cathode materials for steam and CO2 electrolysis

Wenji Ruan et al.

Summary: The study indicates that Fe3+ doping can enhance the electrical conductivity of oxide cathodes in air, but may affect the stability of the material structure in reducing atmosphere. The electric conductivity under Fe3+ doping is mainly attributed to the interaction between Ti4+-O-Ti3+ and Fe3+-O-Fe2+. Excessive Fe3+ doping may lead to phase transformation and interface issues.

Enhancing CO2 Catalytic Adsorption on an Fe Nanoparticle-Decorated LaSrFeO4+ δ Cathode for CO2 Electrolysis

Changyang Liu et al.

Summary: A low-cost and highly active metallic Fe nanoparticle-decorated Ruddlesden-Popper cathode catalyst is reported for CO2 electrolysis at high temperatures, showing high current density and Faraday efficiency. The improved CO2 dissociative adsorption due to exsolved Fe nanoparticles significantly reduces the polarization resistance for CO2 electrolysis. Additionally, the electrolysis cell exhibits acceptable short-term stability for direct CO2 electrolysis.

Reducing d-p band coupling to enhance CO2 electrocatalytic activity by Mg-doping in Sr2FeMoO6-δ double perovskite for high performance solid oxide electrolysis cells

Xiuan Xi et al.

Summary: In this study, a promising cathode material with high activity and stability was developed by partially replacing Mo with Mg in the double perovskite structure. The newly developed material showed improved redox stability and CO2 electrolysis performance. Experimental results demonstrated that the electrolytic current of the new cathode material was almost double that of the original material, showcasing enhanced electrocatalytic performance.

Investigation of hetero-phases grown via in-situ exsolution on a Ni-doped (La,Sr)FeO3 cathode and the resultant activity enhancement in CO2 reduction

Dhruba J. Deka et al.

Summary: By exsolving metal nanoparticles and creating oxygen vacancies in a Ni-doped (La,Sr)FeO3 perovskite, the catalytic activity of the material can be enhanced, especially for high-temperature CO2 reduction. The contribution of metal nanoparticles and oxygen vacancies to improving electrocatalytic activity is much greater than that of the evolved RP phase.

Summary: The study demonstrates high-performance SOFCs with an LNO-based cathode fabricated by a low-temperature processing route that suppresses harmful chemical reactions. The addition of sintering additives enhances the bonding between the cathode and electrolyte at temperatures significantly lower than typical processing temperatures, simplifying the cell structure and manufacturing process. These results highlight the importance of carefully engineering processing parameters to fully exploit the superior intrinsic properties of the LNO-based cathode.
