Enhancement of the electrocatalytic activity of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ through surface modification by acid etching

Lijun Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, the surface properties of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-delta (LSCF) perovskite electrode were modified with HNO3 treatment to improve its catalytic activity towards oxygen reduction reaction. The acid etching reduced the surface concentrations of A-site cations and suppressed the segregation of Sr on the surface. The HNO3 treatment also led to the formation of highly reactive oxygen species and Fe4+ species on the surface, accelerating the reduction of oxygen species adsorbed on the LSCF surface.

Geometric structure distribution and oxidation state demand of cations in spinel NixFe1-xCo2O4 composite cathodes for solid oxide fuel cells

Fulan Zhong et al.

Summary: A complex spinel oxide catalyst was prepared to enhance the oxygen reduction reaction in intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The introduction of Ni doping optimized the oxidation states of Fe and Co ions, improving small polaron hopping and enhancing electrical conductivity. The electrochemical performance of the NFCO2-based IT-SOFCs outperformed other reported SOFCs with cathodes, achieving a high power density of 1.93 W/cm(2) at 800 degrees C.

Enhancing Oxygen Reduction Activity and Cr Tolerance of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cathodes by a Multiphase Catalyst Coating

Yinghua Niu et al.

Summary: Intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs) face challenges due to the sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and cathode degradation. A highly efficient multiphase catalyst coating significantly enhances the ORR activity and durability. Experimental results show improved peak power density and increased durability against Cr and H2O. Both the BCFN phase and BaCO3 phase contribute to the improved performance of the LSCF cathode.

Effects of surface chemical potentials on cation segregation

Eugene Ostrovskiy et al.

Summary: The research indicates that factors such as temperature, oxygen partial pressure, and the presence of CO2 have significant effects on surface cation segregation; SrO particles primarily form within a specific operating window, with oxygen-containing molecules in the gas phase aiding in their precipitation; A-site deficiency limits SrO segregation under certain conditions.
