Bimetallic, Silylene-Mediated Multielectron Reductions of Carbon Dioxide and Ethylene

Matthew T. Whited et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates a metal/ligand cooperative approach to reducing small molecules using metal silylene complexes, achieving net two-electron transformations through one-electron redox processes. Silicon activates incoming substrates and mediates the generation of bimetallic products with two metal centers, suitable for 3d metals.

Dehydrogenative Double C-H Bond Activation in a Germylene-Rhodium Complex**

Sonia Bajo et al.

Summary: Transition metal tetrylene complexes show great potential for molecular cooperation, with the coordination of germylene leading to the formation of unique rhodium-germyl species and the discovery of a distinctive dehydrogenative double C-H bond activation mechanism. Computational studies support the key cooperative action of rhodium and germanium centers in this process.

Alternative Conceptual Approach to the Design of Bifunctional Catalysts: An Osmium Germylene System for the Dehydrogenation of Formic Acid

Maria L. Buil et al.

Summary: The reaction of hexahydride OsH6(PiPr(3))(2) with a P,Ge,P-germylene-diphosphine leads to an osmium tetrahydride derivative with a Ge,P-chelate, serving as a bifunctional catalyst for formic acid dehydrogenation. The study reveals that hydrogen formation occurs exclusively on the coordination sphere of the metal center, while both the metal center and the sigma-donor Lewis acid cooperatively participate in CO2 release, which is the rate-determining step.

(Z)-Selective Hydrosilylation and Hydroboration of Terminal Alkynes Enabled by Ruthenium Complexes with an N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligand

Yuichiro Mutoh et al.

Summary: Efforts were made to develop a ruthenium complex for efficient catalysis of the hydrosilylation and hydroboration of terminal alkynes, as well as to explore factors controlling the (Z)-selectivity of the reactions. Additionally, the activation of B-protected boronic acids, R-B(dan) (dan = naphthalene-1,8-diaminato), believed to not participate in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling, was discussed.

Cooperativity in Transition Metal Tetrylene Complexes

Rosie J. Somerville et al.

Summary: Cooperation between heavier group 14 elements (tetrylenes) and transition metals has led to the formation of metal tetrylene and metallotetrylene complexes, allowing for new transformations. Significant progress has been made in cooperative reactivity, but challenges still need to be overcome for this cooperativity to be applied in catalysis.

Markovnikov Hydrosilylation of Alkynes with Tertiary Silanes Catalyzed by Dinuclear Cobalt Carbonyl Complexes with NHC Ligation

Dongyang Wang et al.

Summary: The selective Markovnikov hydrosilylation reactions of terminal alkynes with tertiary silanes using a dicobalt carbonyl N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complex as catalyst presented in this study, provide an efficient method for synthesizing alpha-vinylsilanes with good functional group compatibility and high alpha/beta selectivity. Mechanistic study revealed the formation of dinuclear cobalt alkyne and mononuclear cobalt silyl complexes during the reactions, with the mono(NHC) dicobalt complex exhibiting higher catalytic activity over di(NHC)-dicobalt complexes.
