Noise activates escapes in closed Hamiltonian systems

Alexandre R. Nieto et al.

Summary: This study reveals a noise-activated escape phenomenon in closed Hamiltonian systems, transforming bounded motion into chaotic scattering. By analyzing average escape time, probability basins, and escape time distribution, it is found that characteristics of scattering in closed systems differ from open systems, with noise-enhanced trapping playing a minor role in escapes and a transition in average escape time evolution with increased noise. This research provides numerical evidence of the destruction of the stickiness of KAM islands as a key factor in changing scaling laws, unlocking the possibility of modeling chaotic scattering problems in noisy closed Hamiltonian systems.

DYNAMICS IN FRACTAL SPACES

Alvaro G. Lopez

Summary: This study explores the dynamics of a particle in a non-differentiable space, introducing stochasticity. By using the concept of fiber bundle to characterize multivalued geodesic trajectories passing through non-differentiable points, the framework is generalized to everywhere non-smooth structures. The resulting theoretical framework combines surface theory and stochastic processes, allowing for modeling fractality or fluctuations in any conceivable continuous, non-differentiable space.

Hybrid models of chemotaxis with application to leukocyte migration

Hannah Lu et al.

Summary: Hybrid simulations combine discrete and continuous descriptors to model systems with drastically different numbers of reacting species. A stochastic hybrid algorithm is used to simulate the immune response to inflammation, where leukocytes reach pathogens through chemotaxis. The importance of randomness in predicting leukocyte migration and fate is demonstrated through numerical experiments.

Final state sensitivity in noisy chaotic scattering

Alexandre R. Nieto et al.

Summary: The passage discusses the unpredictability in chaotic scattering problems, highlighting the importance of noise in system dynamics and how unpredictability is influenced by chaotic dynamics and stochastic fluctuations in the presence of noise. By adopting a probabilistic point of view, concepts like probability basin, uncertainty basin, and noise-sensitivity exponent are developed to analyze both quantitatively and qualitatively the unpredictability in noisy chaotic scattering problems.
