The neural inhibition network is causally involved in the disembodiment effect of linguistic negation

Francesca Vitale et al.

Summary: Applying negation in action contexts reduces motor system activation. The right inferior frontal gyrus (rIFG), a key area of the inhibitory control system, was found to contribute to the processing of negated action-sentences in the primary motor cortex (M1). Modulating rIFG suppressed the inhibitory effect of negation, resulting in equal motor excitability for negative and affirmative action sentences.

Inhibitory Mechanisms in the Processing of Negations: A Neural Reuse Hypothesis

David Beltran et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a hypothesis that negation may reuse general-domain mechanisms that support inhibition in other non-linguistic cognitive functions. The inhibitory effects of negation on conceptual representations and its interaction with response inhibition are described, along with neurophysiological evidence supporting the idea that negation and response inhibition share inhibitory mechanisms.

Summary: Dementia prevalence in Latin America is rapidly increasing, leading to clinical, social, and economic burdens for patients and their families. The Latin America and the Caribbean Consortium on Dementia (LAC-CD) is a regional organization aiming to oversee and promote clinical and research activities on dementia in the region. Coordination of efforts is crucial to address the challenges posed by dementia in Latin America and to improve healthcare systems and research collaborations.

Speech and language impairments in behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia: A systematic review

Amandine Geraudie et al.

Summary: A systematic review of speech and language impairments in behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) found extensive and heterogeneous deficits, including consistent lexico-semantic, reading & writing, and prosodic impairments. Preliminary findings suggest that the severity of these deficits might be associated with global cognitive impairment, temporal or fronto-temporal atrophy, and MAPT mutations.

Dissociable electrophysiological measures of natural language processing reveal differences in speech comprehension strategy in healthy ageing

Michael P. Broderick et al.

Summary: Research shows that with age, there are differences in how the brain processes language, with older adults showing distinct differences in predicting and processing semantic features compared to younger adults. Older individuals are less likely to pre-activate semantic features related to upcoming words, and the weaker the neural signature of this semantic pre-activation mechanism, the lower their semantic verbal fluency score. These changes suggest a reduced role of prediction at a semantic level in older listeners during speech comprehension.

Metacognition of emotion recognition across neurodegenerative diseases

Indira Garcia-Cordero et al.

Summary: Metacognition of emotion recognition plays a crucial role in social interactions, with impairments linked to basic emotion recognition deficits in neurodegenerative diseases. Patients show more severe metacognition deficits in recognizing negative emotions, associated with reduced volume in specific brain regions and disconnection of large-scale networks.

Interoception Primes Emotional Processing: Multimodal Evidence from Neurodegeneration

Paula C. Salamone et al.

Summary: Recent research highlights interoceptive priors as core modulators of negative emotions, with disruptions observed in Parkinson's disease and behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia patients in recognizing negative emotions post-interoception. Alzheimer's disease patients show generalized disruptions across emotion types. The volume of the insula and ACC are correlated with negative emotion recognition post-interoception across all groups. Disruptions in functional connectivity in the salience and executive networks are selectively observed in bvFTD and PD patients, respectively.

Multimodal neurocognitive markers of frontal lobe epilepsy: Insights from ecological text processing

Summary: The study found that FLE patients exhibited specific and selective impairments in action comprehension, which were correlated with reduced integrity of the anterior thalamic radiation and hypoconnectivity between the primary motor cortex and the left parietal/supramarginal regions. Machine learning classifiers based on neurocognitive measures achieved high accuracy rates in discriminating different types of epilepsy patients.

Language in Behavioral Variant Frontotemporal Dementia: Another Stone to Be Turned in Latin America

Amandine Geraudie et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that patients with behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia in Latin America commonly experience language difficulties, particularly in phonemic and semantic fluency, naming, semantic processing, and comprehension. These deficits are often associated with overall cognitive impairments, and some may be as severe as in other diseases such as Alzheimer's.

The Neural Blending of Words and Movement: Event-Related Potential Signatures of Semantic and Action Processes during Motor-Language Coupling

Sabrina Cervetto et al.

Summary: Behavioral embodied research has demonstrated that words evoking limb-specific meanings can affect responses performed with the corresponding body part. This study explored the neural dynamics of this phenomenon under implicit processing conditions by examining the interaction between hand actions and manual action verbs. The results show that manual action verbs have distinct effects on semantic integration and motor-related cortical potentials in a lexical decision task.
