Strength of single-phase high-entropy carbide ceramics up to 2300°C

A study to enhance the mechanical durability of the MAO coating fabricated on the 7075 Al alloy for wear-related high temperature applications

Summary: The study focuses on enhancing the wear resistance and durability of micro-arc oxidation coatings on aluminium alloys under high temperatures and pressures by adding ZrO2 particles to the electrolyte. Coatings synthesized in ZrO2-added electrolyte exhibited improved wear resistance during dry sliding wear tests at room temperature and higher durability during tests at 300 degrees C. The maximum contact pressures at which coatings can endure 106 contact cycles at 300 degrees C were estimated to be 851 and 331 MPa for ZrO2-added and ZrO2-free coatings, respectively.

Effects of milling time and reductant content on the formation of HfC-HfB2 composite powders synthesized via a solid-state reaction route

Summary: A solid-state reaction route combining HEBM and annealing was used to synthesize HfC-HfB2 composite powders in this study. The effects of HEBM duration and excess reductant amount on the reaction mechanism and product phases were investigated. XRD analysis showed that the content of HfC phase increased while the content of HfO2 phase decreased with longer milling duration and higher reductant amounts.

Nanoindentation and tribology of a (Hf-Ta-Zr-Nb-Ti)C high-entropy carbide

Summary: A (Hf-Ta-Zr-Nb-Ti)C high-entropy carbide was successfully prepared via ball milling and a two-step Spark Plasma Sintering process, achieving a single-phase ceramic sample with high relative density and hardness values. The wear mechanism of the sample was identified as mechanical wear, with an increase in specific wear rate correlated to the decrease in nanohardness on worn surfaces with increasing wear load.
