WC plus Co plus graphene platelet composites with improved mechanical, tribological and thermal properties

Meng Li et al.

Summary: WC+Co+graphene platelet (GPL) composites were processed by sintering at 1380 degrees C in argon, leading to a homogeneous distribution of GPLs and improved mechanical properties and microstructure. The composites also showed enhanced tribological properties with lower friction coefficient and wear rate. Additionally, thermal conductivity was significantly enhanced with increasing GPLs content.

Effects of GNP on the mechanical properties and sliding wear of WC-10wt% Co cemented carbide

Taraneh Hezaveh et al.

Summary: The addition of graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) was found to refine the microstructure, increase fracture toughness, and postpone friction transition in cemented carbides. The highest hardness and wear resistance were achieved with 1% GNP content, but at higher levels, both properties decreased due to the agglomeration of GNPs. Wear mechanisms differed between GNP-free and GNP-reinforced cemented carbides, with GNPs promoting the formation of a lubricating surface layer and inhibiting plastic flow.

Ti3SiC2 interphase coating in SiCf/SiC composites: Effect of the coating fabrication atmosphere and temperature

Shaobing Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the temperature and atmosphere had a significant impact on the microstructural evolution and mechanical strength of SiC fibers coated with Ti3SiC2 interphase when treated in vacuum and argon atmospheres. The fiber strength treated in argon was lower than that treated in vacuum primarily due to the oxidation of Ti3SiC2 in the argon atmosphere.
