Boosting the potassium-ion storage performance enabled by engineering of hierarchical MoSSe nanosheets modified with carbon on porous carbon sphere

Mengting Cai et al.

Summary: This study reports a hierarchically structured superior anode material that significantly enhances the performance of potassium-ion batteries. The anode, consisting of assembled MoSSe nanosheets anchored on a porous carbon sphere and encapsulated within a thin carbon layer, exhibits high reversible capacity, good rate capability, and superior cyclic performance due to expanded interlayer spacing, abundant anion vacancies, and the protective and conductive properties of the carbon layers.

Lithiophilic N-doped carbon bowls induced Li deposition in layered graphene film for advanced lithium metal batteries

Xiaoyu Feng et al.

Summary: Our research demonstrates a highly stable and dendrite-free Li metal anode achieved by using N-doped hard carbon/reduced graphene nano sheets as a 3D conductive and lithiophilic scaffold host. The lithiophilic carbon bowl acts as an excellent guide during Li plating, while the high conductivity and mechanical stability of the rGO layer maintain the integrity of the composite, resulting in low lithium metal nucleation overpotential and high Coulombic efficiency.

Promoting favorable interfacial properties in lithium-based batteries using chlorine-rich sulfide inorganic solid-state electrolytes

Dewu Zeng et al.

Summary: The interfacial stability of lithium metal is crucial for the development of all-solid-state batteries. In this study, researchers investigate the influence of chloride distribution and cooling process on the evolution of the Li|SE interface microstructure. They found that controlling these factors can lead to the formation of a LiCl-rich interphase layer, which improves battery cycling performance.

Unraveling the Conversion Evolution on Solid-State Na-SeS2 Battery via In Situ TEM

Ziqi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study unravels the basic mechanism of how Se catalyzes the conversion reaction in Na-S batteries. Real-time analysis and in situ TEM observations reveal that the incorporation of Se significantly lowers the conversion reaction barrier. These findings can be applied to optimize other S-based active materials and improve their utilization.

Extra storage capacity in transition metal oxide lithium-ion batteries revealed by in situ magnetometry

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: Although some transition metal oxide-based electrodes exhibit high storage capacities beyond theoretical values, the surface capacitance on metal nanoparticles involving spin-polarized electrons is consistent with a space charge mechanism. The phenomenon of anomalously high storage capacities in different metal oxides is still under debate, but in situ magnetometry has shown that surface capacitance plays a dominant role in providing extra capacity. This space charge mechanism can be generalized to a broad range of transition metal compounds, providing guidance for advanced energy storage systems.
