Confined Ni-In intermetallic alloy nanocatalyst with excellent coking resistance for methane dry reforming

Wenming Liu et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide and methane are major greenhouse gases contributing to global warming, but dry reforming of methane (DRM) can convert them into useful products. However, the coking formation on nickel-based catalysts is a challenge for industrialization. Confined indium-nickel intermetallic alloy nanocatalysts show superior resistance to coking in DRM, with the In0.5Ni@SiO2 catalyst demonstrating the best balance of carbon deposition resistance and reactivity. This study provides guidance on designing high-performance catalysts for methane dry reforming to utilize greenhouse gases efficiently.

Enhanced performance and selectivity of CO2 methanation over phyllosilicate structure derived Ni-Mg/SBA-15 catalysts

Plaifa Hongmanorom et al.

Summary: Ni and Ni-Mg phyllosilicate mesoporous SBA-15 catalysts prepared via ammonia evaporation (AE) method exhibit superior catalytic performance in CO2 methanation compared to catalysts prepared via wetness impregnation (WI) method, due to enhanced metal-support interaction and weakly basic sites provided by surface hydroxyl groups. Incorporation of Mg into phyllosilicate structure increases medium basic sites, promoting monodentate formate formation and improving CO2 methanation activity. Additionally, the turnover frequency of CO2 conversion is correlated with the concentration of basic sites, and the strong metal-support interaction and confinement effect of SBA-15 can suppress metal sintering, ensuring good stability.

Bifunctional Ni-Ca based material for integrated CO2 capture and conversion via calcium-looping dry reforming

Jiawei Hu et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the development of a bifunctional Ni-Ca based material to enable isothermal capture and release of CO2, as well as in-situ conversion of CH4 into syngas in a single reactor. The addition of CeO2 helps combat inactive carbon accumulation and activate CO2 and CH4, leading to enhanced syngas production during cyclic CaLDRM. The bifunctional material successfully converts over 40% of CH4 and CO2 under thermodynamically unfavorable conditions.

Role of lattice oxygen in methane activation on Ni-phyllosilicate@Ce1-xZrxO2 core-shell catalyst for methane dry reforming: Zr doping effect, mechanism, and kinetic study

Sonali Das et al.

Summary: Sandwich structured core-shell Ni-Phyllosilicate@Ce1-xZrxO2 catalysts with optimal Zr loading in the Ce1-xZrxO2 shell are found to greatly enhance the intrinsic activity for DRM due to increased lattice oxygen mobility of the ceria-zirconia shell and stronger metal-support interaction with Ni. Involvement of lattice oxygen in methane activation and dissociation contributes to the higher DRM activity of the Zr-doped catalyst with maximum oxygen storage capacity, as inferred from rigorous kinetic and mechanism studies.

Catalytic performance of hydrotalcite-like-compound-derived Ni-metal alloy catalyst for toluene reforming with gasoline engine exhaust model gas as reforming agent

Mii Betchaku et al.

Summary: Reforming of toluene with model exhaust gas was conducted at 773K using Ni-M/Mg/Al (Ni 12 wt%, M = Fe, Co, Cu). NiFe/Mg/Al showed higher performance in terms of activity, cokedeposition resistance and stability compared to Ni/Mg/Al. Ni-Fe/Mg/Al demonstrated high coke-deposition resistance and suppressed substrate decomposition and CO disproportionation.
