SIRT1 Gene SNP rs932658 Is Associated With Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw

Guang Yang et al.

Summary: This study identified potential causal variants for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in cancer patients treated with intravenous bisphosphonates (iv BPs) by finding an association between three SNPs in the SIRT1 promoter region and MRONJ. It was shown that the minor alleles of these SNPs were associated with lower odds for MRONJ. Functional assays indicated that the promoter SNP rs932658 regulates SIRT1 expression and may reduce the risk of MRONJ.
