Effect of starch aldehyde-catechin conjugates on the structural, physical and antioxidant properties of quaternary ammonium chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol films

Huixia Hu et al.

Summary: The stability of catechin in active packaging films was improved by conjugating catechin with starch aldehyde. The resulting starch aldehyde-catechin conjugates enhanced the physical and antioxidant properties of the films. These films showed great potential in peanut oil packaging by effectively reducing peroxide values and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance levels.

Enhanced mechanical properties, water resistance, thermal stability, and biodegradation of the starch-sisal fibre composites with various fillers

Maocheng Ji et al.

Summary: The addition of inorganic fillers and a bio-filler to starch-sisal fibre composites improved their mechanical properties, water resistance, thermal stability and biodegradation characteristics. Eggshell powder and calcium carbonate showed the most positive effects, with eggshell powder offering optimal cushioning and biodegradation performance.

Biodegradable films based on chitosan and defatted Chlorella biomass: Functional and physical characterization

Aarti R. Deshmukh et al.

Summary: Biodegradable films based on chitosan, glycerol, and defatted Chlorella biomass were prepared and characterized, showing that increasing the content of defatted algal biomass improved mechanical properties but reduced water barrier and optical properties of the films. Through microscopy and spectroscopy analysis, the enhancement in properties was attributed to the uniform distribution of DCB and the establishment of hydrogen bond interactions between components.

Chitosan and procyanidin composite films with high antioxidant activity and pH responsivity for cheese packaging

Li Zhang et al.

Summary: CS-PC films showed higher tensile strength and lower solubility compared to CS-control film, as well as good antioxidant and antibacterial properties. pH responsivity was also demonstrated by visible color changes.
