Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

Prominent roles of ribosomal S6 kinase 4 (RSK4) in cancer

Junpeng Xu et al.

Summary: RSK4 is a Ser/Thr protein kinase that regulates cell survival and proliferation in various types of cancer. Its role as a tumor suppressor gene or an oncogene is controversial, and specific inhibitors for RSK4 have not been found.

The role of the p90 ribosomal S6 kinase family in prostate cancer progression and therapy resistance

Ryan Cronin et al.

Summary: Prostate cancer is the second most commonly occurring cancer in men, with standard treatments including androgen-deprivation therapy and AR signaling inhibitors. However, the development of therapy resistance can occur. The p90 ribosomal S6 kinase (RSK) family is a potential novel target for treatment, exhibiting roles in transcription and translation regulation.

CCL16 maintains stem cell-like properties in breast cancer by activating CCR2/GSK3β/β-catenin/OCT4 axis

Wenzhi Shen et al.

Summary: Our study identified CCL16 as a potential regulator of cancer stem cells and proposed a novel mechanism by which CCL16 governs cancer cell stemness. We found that CCL16 overexpression in breast tumors was significantly correlated with clinical progression. Silencing CCL16 diminished CSC properties and targeting CCR2 and beta-catenin abolished CCL16-mediated cancer stemness.
