Copper Extraction from Dilute Solutions by Cementation in a Gas-Sparged Helical Coil Reactor

I. M. Awaad et al.

Summary: This study determined the rate of copper cementation from aqueous solutions on a gas-sparged iron helical coil and investigated the effects of different conditions on the rate of cementation. The results demonstrated that the helical coil reactor is a low-cost, high-productivity option for copper recovery from low-grade ores and industrial waste solutions due to its large area and high mass transfer coefficient.

Mass Transfer Behavior of a Rotating Hexagonal Cylinder Reactor Suitable for Water Pollution Control

Mohamed H. Saad Eldin et al.

Summary: Rates of mass transfer at a rotating cylinder with a hexagonal cross section were measured using the limiting current method. The study found that a drag-reducing polymer can slow down mass transfer speed depending on its quantity and rotation speed. Compared to circular cylinders, rotating hexagonal cylinders showed higher levels of mass transfer and were effective in removing Cu2+ from dilute liquids. Additionally, the heat transfer from the cylinder to the liquid helps prevent hot spots, catalyst deactivation, and product decomposition.

Cementation of Copper on Zinc in Agitated Vessels Equipped with Perforated Baffles as Turbulence Promoters

B. S. Ibrahim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the possibility of intensifying the cementation process in stirred vessels using perforated baffles as turbulence promoters, with the cementation reaction of Cu+2 on Zn as a model. The rate of cementation was found to increase with higher initial concentration of Cu+2, solution temperature, and impeller rotation speed within the studied parameters. Flat turbines were found to give a higher rate of cementation compared to 45 degrees pitched turbines at the same rotational speed.

Enhancement of heavy metals recovery from aqueous solutions by cementation on a rotating cylinder using a stationary wiper

M. S. Ahmed et al.

Summary: The research examines the impact of a stationary wiper almost touching a revolving zinc solid cylinder on the rate of Cu+2 cementation. The study finds that the mass transfer coefficient accelerates as rotation speed and quantity of Cu+2 increase, with the presence of a wiper enhancing the degree of Cu+2 cementation. The data has been interrelated by dimensionless equations for the sizing and running of rotating cylinders used for diffusion-restricted reactions.
