Preparing Patients for Sexual Dysfunction After Radiation for Anorectal Cancers: A Systematic Review

David G. Wallington et al.

Summary: The successful multimodality treatment of anorectal cancers has resulted in increased numbers of survivors experiencing permanent, life-changing side effects, including sexual dysfunction (SD). Pelvic radiation plays a significant negative role in anatomic, hormonal, and physiological aspects of sexual function following treatment for anorectal cancers. It is essential to improve counseling and education for patients regarding SD and to conduct further research into interventions aimed at treating post-radiation sexual function.

Sexual health among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors: A scoping review from the Children's Oncology Group Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Discipline Committee

Brooke Cherven et al.

Summary: This study summarizes the literature on sexual function among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors, finding that they experience a burden of sexual dysfunction and interventions are needed to support sexual health and psychosexual adjustment. Collaboration between organizations is necessary to advance assessment of sexual dysfunction and test interventions to improve sexual health among this population.

A first radiotherapy application of functional bulboclitoris anatomy, a novel female sexual organ-at-risk, and organ-sparing feasibility study

Deborah C. Marshall et al.

Summary: The structure and function of the bulboclitoris, the primary organ responsible for female sexual arousal and orgasm, have yet to be described in radiotherapy literature. Contouring for the bulboclitoris was feasible, and bulboclitoris-sparing IMRT significantly reduced dose to the bulboclitoris in female patients with anal cancer. Further clinical studies are warranted to explore the potential benefits of this approach in reducing sexual toxicity.
