Rupture Passing Probabilities at Fault Bends and Steps, with Application to Rupture Length Probabilities for Earthquake Early Warning

Glenn P. Biasi et al.

Summary: This study presents two approaches for estimating probabilities of earthquake rupture length, one based on physical mechanisms of fault bends and steps, and the other based on time-independent rates from the Uniform California Earthquake Rupture Forecast. The research illustrates the complexity of rupture propagation in the California region, with only around 5% of ruptures predicted to reach the eastern edge of the greater Los Angeles region from the San Andreas fault Southeast end.

Postglacial slip distribution along the Teton normal fault (Wyoming, USA), derived from tectonically offset geomorphological features

Andrea Hampel et al.

Summary: Using high-resolution digital elevation models derived from lidar data, this study investigated the asymmetrical postglacial slip distribution along the strike of the Teton fault, revealing vertical displacement differences across tectonically offset geomorphological features along the entire front of the Teton Range. The results indicate that the maximum vertical displacements are located in specific areas north of Jenny Lake and along the southwestern shore of Jackson Lake.

Rapid strain release on the Bear River fault zone, Utah-Wyoming-The impact of preexisting structure on the rupture behavior of a new normal fault

Suzanne Hecker et al.

Summary: The study on earthquake clustering on the Bear River fault zone (BRF) reveals that ruptures are spatially complex due to preexisting structure and geomechanical effects, resulting in significant strain release pulses. Variations in fault strength, both in space and time, are found to be a cause of earthquake clustering on the BRF and other structurally and tectonically immature faults.
