IFC models for semi-automating common planning checks for building permits

Francesca Noardo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of automatic digital tools for building permit issuing, finding that reusing models created by designers can speed up the process and increase objectivity. By starting from available data and making necessary inferences, common issues in automatic processing were successfully addressed, providing a solid foundation for future automation of building permits issuing.

The physical office workplace as a resource for mental health-A systematic scoping review

Lisanne Bergefurt et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that physical workplace characteristics can impact employees' mental health, with a focus on pathogenic factors rather than salutogenic factors. This review utilized ten indicators of mental health to explore the relationship between physical workplace resources and employees' mental well-being and -illness. The findings suggest that some indicators have been extensively studied, while others have received less attention.

A systematic review of personal thermal comfort models

Larissa Arakawa Martins et al.

Summary: Personal comfort models have been shown to predict specific thermal comfort requirements more accurately than aggregate models, but there is a lack of diversity in building types, climate zones, seasons and participants involved in developing these models. There is also a lack of a unified and systematic framework for modeling development and evaluation, highlighting the challenges of black box models in the field.

Extending CityGML for IFC-sourced 3D city models

Filip Biljecki et al.

Summary: The differences in scope and intent between IFC and CityGML data formats can result in information loss when converting from the former to the latter. However, in certain cases, retaining specific information from IFC that is not native to CityGML can be beneficial, requiring mechanisms such as the CityGML Application Domain Extension (ADE). Our development of an ADE to support retaining relevant information from IFC was driven by a discovery process involving potentially applicable use cases in Singapore and shaped to adapt to a set of use cases and the local geographic context.

An Inspection of IFC Models from Practice

Francesca Noardo et al.

Summary: IFC is a comprehensive open standard data model used to represent Building Information Models, but issues can arise when trying to use IFC models from practice for automatic analysis due to misalignment between the standard and the data sets produced in practice. This study aims to identify common patterns in data sets from practice and their discrepancies with the standard in order to address such discrepancies.

Loose coupling of GIS and BIM data models for automated compliance checking against zoning codes

Yelin Demir Altintas et al.

Summary: This paper describes the development of a zoning domain model for automated compliance checking of building projects, where geometric and semantic data are stored, queried, and exported as a GML file through a proof-of-concept GIS application. The use of this data model for automated code checking demonstrates how GIS data can seamlessly complement BIM data without the need for expanding BIM schemas.

EUReCA: An open-source urban building energy modelling tool for the efficient evaluation of cities energy demand

Enrico Prataviera et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new open-source tool that uses electrical analogy to simulate energy demand in buildings and cities with low computational resources. The results show that simplified models are consistent with detailed simulations of single buildings in predicting urban energy demand, and accuracy can be improved by splitting building surfaces into two capacitors.
