Young's modulus evolution during sintering and thermal cycling of pure tin oxide ceramics

Summary: Pure tin oxide (SnO2) ceramics are known for their poor sinterability, primarily due to non-densifying sintering mechanisms. However, they serve as an unusual model system to demonstrate the effects of microstructural changes on properties, unaffected by changes in porosity. Uniaxially pressed pure tin oxide ceramics show significant increases in Young's modulus at different sintering temperatures while maintaining a relatively constant porosity level.
