Activity in nature mediates a park prescription intervention's effects on physical activity, park use and quality of life: a mixed-methods process evaluation

Nicholas Petrunoff et al.

Summary: This study explored the implementation and mechanisms of impact of a Park Prescription Intervention trial, revealing that park physical activity consistently mediated the effects. Human interaction through follow-up or group exercise was found to be a facilitator for intervention participation. To optimize effectiveness, tailoring interventions according to participants' preferences, such as prioritizing time with family through family involvement, could be considered in future studies.

Prevalence and patterns of physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and their association with health-related quality of life within a multi-ethnic Asian population

Jue Hua Lau et al.

Summary: The study found that 17% of the population in Singapore did not meet the minimum requirements for physical activity, while around half of the population spent a considerable amount of time being sedentary. Insufficient physical activity was associated with poorer physical HRQoL, suggesting policymakers should promote moderate physical activity and encourage breaking up prolonged sedentary periods, especially in the middle- and high-income groups at the workplace. Increased leisure-time exercise should be encouraged for those in the lower-income group.

Hypertension in a multi-ethnic Asian population of Singapore

Gek Cher Chan et al.

Summary: Hypertension prevalence varies by country and region, with Asia being a region with diverse ethnicity. Sociodemographic variability is related to ethnic differences, emphasizing the need for hypertension screening and education for at-risk or vulnerable groups. Ethnic differences in genetic variants, dietary choice, lifestyle habits, and sociodemographic factors all play a role in hypertension awareness and treatment control.

Objectively measured association between air pollution and physical activity, sedentary behavior in college students in Beijing

Miao Yu et al.

Summary: The study examined the association between hourly air pollution and physical activity/sedentary behavior among college students in Beijing, revealing that air pollution may discourage physical activity and increase sedentary behavior, with varying impact at specific times. The findings suggest that air pollution has a negative impact on physical activity, especially during peak pollution hours, and leads to increased sedentary behavior among freshman students in Beijing.
